Art on my Mind 2020

Organized by the Art Gallery of York University, Art on My Mind 2020 was a virtual songwriting residency that took place during the summer of 2020. The program culminated with the collective authorship, recording, and music video production of “Hope you Relate.” Written, performed, and recorded by five emerging artists, Zakisha Brown, Terence Penny, NamedTobias., Nasim Asgari, and Tracey Kayy, the song was  mixed and mastered by acclaimed hip hop producer Solitair. On August 31, a music video directed by Prince John Media featuring performances by all of the artists was shot at at the Black Creek Community Farm.

The program also included a virtual showcase hosted by Nathan Baya on the AGYU Instagram feed on July 19 featuring Brown, Penny, NamedTobias., Asgari, and Kayy, along with performances by Wasauksing musician Zeegwon, hip hop artist Veshone, and Jane–Finch R&B singer Kibra. The core team of artists also designed and delivered songwriting workshops to Jane Finch youth enrolled in Success Beyond Limits’ summer program.

AGYU thanks the Toronto Arts Council, the Toronto Arts Foundation, and the Black Creek Community Farm for generously supporting this program.
